Baro Bhooter Mela

Makar Sankranti is a Hindu festival celebrated in almost all parts of India and Nepal in a myriad of cultural forms. It is a harvest festival. Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Makara rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path.

On this holy day Sanyashis from all over India come to GangaSagar for a holy dip. And while returning some of them take rest in a temple near Baghajatin (Lalkya). In this temple there are 12 avatars of God ( Baro Bhoot). And thus a fair is organized.

Baro Bhooter Mela is a fair, and a fair in India always has the rural touch. Food stalls are an essential attraction to all fairs, and no exception for this one too. One can find sweets of different kinds, rather snacky stuff than well-known stuff as seen here. There are also few rides where children can enjoy.

The specialty of this fair is hand made clay models from Krishna Nagar.
